Vivian Suter
Published by Hatje Cantz, Berlin, 2021, 352 pages (colour & b/w ill.), 22 × 33 cm, English / German
Price: €53 (Out of stock)

This comprehensive monograph ventures a look at Vivian Suter’s complete works, bringing together early drawings, painterly wall reliefs from the 1980s, and her latest work from her studio in the tropical rainforest of Guatemala: loose canvases hanging lightly from the ceiling in atmospherically dense installations. The richly illustrated catalog illuminates the interplay between unpredictable natural influences as the paintings are left outside open to the elements and purposeful artistic work in Suter’s practice. Designed by Julia Born.

Ars Viva 09/10 Geschichte
Published by Hate Cantz, Berlin, 2009, 144 pages (colour & b/w ill.), 21.3 × 28.1 cm, German / English
Price: €24

Produced on the occasion of the 2009 ars viva prize for fine arts. Mariana Castillo Deball, Jay Chung & Q Takeki Maeda, and Dani Gal examine historical fragments, documents, and objects in a new light. The artists take on the roles of amateur archaeologists as they work with found objects and fragments; even though it is clear that all display an obvious interest in historical objects, instead of providing any sort of conclusion regarding history as a whole they play an associative game, which formally resembles Aby Warburg’s Mnemosyne Atlas, while reflecting upon personal encounters with objects and places.

With texts by Jeronimo Voss, Cathy Lane, Raimundas Malasauskas, Christiane Mennicke-Schwarz.

Fondorientierte Ausstattung (Fund-oriented Equipment)
Cosima von Bonin
Published by Hatje Cantz, Berlin, 2002, 192 pages (colour & b/w ill.), 23 × 26 cm, English / German
Price: €22

Produced on the occasion of Cosima von Bomin’s exhibition Fondorientierte Ausstattung (Fund-oriented Equipment) at Neue Galerie, Graz, 27 October –1 December, 2002.

“The fact that Poul Gernes once built a ship in order simply to burn it on the open sea, and that Bas Jan Ader set off alone in a small sailing boat in 1975 in order to cross the Atlantic in 60 days, a project that ended in his vanishing without trace, allows Cosima von Bonin’s “skerry cruiser”, stranded in all pomp and elegance here in Graz, to appear not only as a metaphor for unfettered proliferation and boundless world domination but, above all, as a symbol of failure, of misadventure, perhaps even of hubris.”—Neue Galerie, Graz, press release. More information on the exhibition can be found here.

Use of Time
Richard Tuttle
Published by Hatje Cantz, Berlin, 2012, hardcover in slipcase, 36 pages, (colour & b/w ill.), 17.3 × 24.7 cm, English
Price: €65

An elaborate artist book with 18 cards, loosely bound by a weaver knot.

Richard Tuttle has worked in close collaboration with the Kunsthaus Zug as the “in-house artist” for almost twenty years. Through fragile, mostly small, subtle paintings as well as sculptural objects and three-dimensional installations, he continues to explore special features of the museum’s architecture or selected works from its collection. Tuttle poses questions about endurance and continuity, rhythm and repetition in the various cultures of contemporary global society.
