A projected multivolume catalogue of the Michael Krebber’s complete work, compiling high-quality photographs, material descriptions, and provenance of his output in all media. Focused on his early work, this first volume includes paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and film from 1972 to the year 2000. Opening with a historical essay that traces the genesis of Krebber’s practice in relation to contemporaries such as Martin Kippenberger and Albert Oehlen, the book also contains numerous short texts analyzing and contextualizing individual works. In addition to a full biography and bibliography, the catalogue raisonné features extensive documentation of Krebber’s early exhibitions, many of which have not been published before.

The Happy End of Franz Kafka’s ‘Amerika’ is Martin Kippenberger’s (1953–1997) largest and most complex work. The artist spent several years preparing, researching and producing it. The installation, set out on a stylised football pitch, is made up of 50 table and chair ensembles. Alongside classic design icons and found pieces, it also includes furniture especially produced by Kippenberger as well as pieces by numerous befriended artists, including Cosima von Bonin, Tony Oursler, Ulrich Strothjohann, and Jason Rhoades.

This publication examines the work from various perspectives. It is the first time, thanks to extensive research, that the ‘biographies’ of the individual objects and the contexts of their creation and collection have been documented in such a detailed way, offering a new way to approach Martin Kippenberger’s life and oeuvre.

Produced on the occasion of the exhibition Martin Kippenberger, The Last Stop West at the MAK Center for Arts and Architecture, Schindler House, L.A. which focused on Kippenberger’s METRO-Net series, which included six conceptual sculptures that, as a group, establish a far-flung metaphorical subway system from the Greek island of Syros, to several sites in Germany; Dawson City, Yukon Territory, Canada; and West Hollywood, at the Schindler House. Published on the occasion of the exhibition Shandyismus, Autorschaft als Genre curated by Helmut Draxler, Secession, Vienna, 22 February–15 April, 2007.

The exhibition Shandyismus. Autorschaft als Genre refers to Laurence Sterne’s novel The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman from the 18th century. It will focus on Shandyism as a phenomenon or position, reflecting the diversity of points of contact with the media. A number of existing art works will be shown that express the methodological idiom of Shandyism. At the same time, artists have been invited to develop a “Shandyesque intervention” for the exhibition.
